Neurogenic Bladder
Neurogenic bladder is a medical condition that attacks the urinary system and bladder. The general function of the urinary bladder is to store urine but in this state, the bladder performs super actively or under actively depending on the condition. This may happen in conditions in which the nerves that transmit messages back and forth between the bladder, spinal cord, and brain aren't working as they should, it can be due to any injury or neurologic imbalance.
In this situation, problems such as urine leakage, inability to pass urine, kidney damage, and kidney or urinary tract infection occur.
These are facts about the neurogenic bladder.
- Neurogenic bladder refers to a condition in which the bladder isn't empty correctly due to neurological conditions or spinal cord injury.
- A birth defect, most commonly one that affects the spinal cord, can cause this condition.
- While neurogenic bladder can't be cured, it is treatable.
- The majority of cases of the neurogenic bladder are manageable with medication and intermittent catheterization.
- A small number of children with this condition need major reconstructive surgery.
Neurogenic Bladder Treated
The cause of neurogenic bladder is important. This treatment is intended to prevent kidney damage. It may include:
- Medicines
- Regularly empty the bladder using a catheter.
- Preventive antibiotics to lower infection
- Place an artificial cuff around your bladder's neck. It can be inflated to hold urine and then deflated to let it out.
- Surgery to remove blocks or stones
- Botox injections in the bladder muscle
- Use an electric device to stimulate or slow bladder activity.
